Patreon is a site on the internet with a membership platform where people that are called patrons can support and interact with creators that they choose. Patreon is a network that allows creators to be paid by Patrons that appreciate the content or things Creators create. Some things that Creators create are things that teach, inspire, entertain and even make people simply laugh. Patreon is based on the old concept of Patronage. Works of literature and art such as “Romeo and Juliet” and “Mona Lisa” had patrons and without them, they probably would not have come to be. In the past, aristocrats had money and would pay artists and talented individuals to create art and other things that appealed to them and society. The donations Patrons given to artists were usually used to endorse and promote their own social and political positions and ambitions.
On the Patreon membership platform, Patrons that pay fees will have early access to things such as music and other kinds of content produced by the Creators they support. Different levels of support give more contact with their creators based on what level of contribution they have committed to. The Patrons provide sustainable income to Creators who are able to produce and focus on their work and provide quality content. If the Creators did not have this kind of support, it would be unlikely that they would produce the same level of content. Patreon also allows for Patrons to connect with the Creators they support. Ultimately, the level of freedom that Creators have through their Patrons, makes all the difference without the financial worries that everyone faces. Creators are able to make top quality art, music and content that otherwise would not have been possible without Patreon and their respective Patrons.
In order to break down the essence of Patreon, one could describe it as a sort of crowdfunding campaign that is reoccurring because it is supported by people who chose to be Patrons. Patreon is officially a crowdfunding platform where Creators connect with Patrons.
“Patreon” is a combination of “Patron” and “Eon”.
A Patron is a person that provides support that is usually financial in nature.
An Eon is a period of time that is considered to be a very long time.
The two words combined were intended to form “Patreon”, which is an individual that funds and supports a single Creator or multiple Creators for a long period of time.
Creators can start a page on Patreon and have the support of their fans by means of being Patrons. Creators benefit from being able to do what they love and still get paid for it. Even companies can find support on Patreon and mind the finances to make their products or services get going and at the same time increase their popularity and contact with their fans and the public.
Patreon has its own team and they are constantly working on making the membership platform better. The company is lead by Jack Conte who is one of the founders and is presently the Chief Executive Officer – CEO. Hank Green gives the Patreon Crashcourse. Nick Scarpino is responsible for the Kindafunny section of Patreon.
